What better way to commemorate this eco-friendly holiday than by doing your part to make a difference.

Here are five ways to participate on Earth Day:

Support ethical and environmentally conscious companies. Do you shop small? Awesome! But what about businesses that put the environment first? Check out these lists on Forbes, Squadle, and The Good Trade for information on green companies, restaurants, and fashion brands.

Conserve water and energy. We all share this planet with one another. Conserving water and energy is all about making responsible choices to eliminate excess use and waste. Instead of leaving the water running while doing the dishes, turn it off while you sort. Unplug appliances that you are not using and keep track of your expenses throughout the month. Not only will you see a decrease in your overall global footprint, but in your bills as well. Be sure to read these suggestions on Apartment Therapy for further insights.

Plant a garden or a tree. It’s the little things that count! What better time than Spring? If space is an issue plant herbs or succulents. To make sure you are equipped with the right tools and resources, follow these tips on Better Homes and Gardens.

Implement eco-friendly living at home. Change begins at home in the everyday tasks of our lives. But having a green philosophy doesn’t have to be expensive. Want to learn more? She Knows created a very helpful guide that encourages us all to practice environmentally friendly habits at home.

Attend local events or volunteer. Keep involved in your community throughout the year. Don’t stop now! Inform yourself on the issues that your city or town is facing. Use your skills to contribute to the solutions.

Have a wonderful Earth Day!
