Patricia lives and works in Chiapas, a southern state of Mexico. Over many years, the communities and indigenous populations of Chiapas have struggled to gain access to land, shelter, work, proper education, and healthcare.

To address these inequities, Patricia works with volunteers who wish to support indigenous, rural, and/or urban communities and links them to social organizations in Chiapas that need support. She does this work through nonprofit organization Junax, which seeks to create a diverse community of volunteers that can then be connected to organizations in need.

Over the past 20 years, Patricia has worked with more than 10,000 volunteers. She plays a huge part in identifying a volunteer’s skills and interests and using her knowledge of local organizations to find a good fit.

“What keeps me motivated is, without a doubt, the synergy and positive results of the communities that have traveled and coincided with the spirit of this social project, which does not claim any benefit for itself but is for the vulnerable and disadvantaged society.”
