Overview

AWS Greengrass is a toolkit for Edge Computing provided by Amazon Web Services. This software lets you run local computing, messaging, data caching, sync, and ML inference capabilities on connected devices in a secure way. With AWS Greengrass, connected devices can run AWS Lambda functions, keep device data in sync, and communicate with other devices securely.

Recently Amazon has released some new features that dramatically facilitate the development and deployment, such as:

• Containerized deployment using Docker: now there is no need in special hardware or EC2 instances to run Greengrass core
• IaC using CloudFormation: now Greengrass groups and cloud-backed infrastructure can be extracted in one click
• Out-of-box components, so-called Connectors, that facilitate using GPIO, image recognition, security, seamless integration with AWS cloud services
• Some other features that give more power and flexibility to running Lambdas at the edge

This workshop will provide an overview of key principles of this toolkit, pay special attention to the new features and show a hands-on demo of how all these components work together.
