The global responsibility crux

How do we live, learn and lead together for the global common good, whilst simultaneously and inevitably being part of competitive dynamics in and across sectors and industries? How do we make global responsibility real in leadership and practice in a context where the competition-collaboration dynamic and paradox is widely acknowledged but not fully understood nor effectively leveraged?
An inquiry into the competition-collaboration intersection will be at the core of a week of learning and co-operative inquiry to be held at Kedge Business School in Marseille, France from 14 to 18 May 2018.
For many years, the responsibility of higher education & learning institutions for building a sustainable world has been highlighted. All over the world, faculty, administrators, learning facilitators and students have developed initiatives at local, regional and international levels to help transform society, business and education.
These initiatives have generated positive energy and goodwill, inspired further actions and innovations and achieved undeniable successes. However the collective impact of these initiatives still somehow falls short of the deep transformation required at individual and collective level to make the change sustainable.
- What kind of change maker and initiative is required to accelerate and deepen the level of change desired?
- How may existing and emergent initiatives with a shared sense of purpose converge and align to better tackle the systemic issues faced?
- Ultimately — how may change makers and change initiatives work beyond the ego and achieve mutualistic symbiosis?
Networks and initiatives from around the globe, with representation at various levels — local student organisations, regional interest groups, international partnerships and UN-level initiatives — will convene 14–18 May and move towards accelerating systemic impact.

Impact through individual, organisational and systemic action — me, we and all of us.
One of the many slogans that emerged from the May’ 68 social revolution in France was “Cela nous concerne tous” or “This concerns all of us”. With reference to the history and impact of social movements (including the May’ 68 movement which will be marking its 50 year anniversary), participants in the week’s event will locate their own work and initiatives in the midst of a global shift in consciousness and consider our shared and common future.
The event offers a cross-road moment for like-minded and like-hearted initiatives where they may intersect and ultimately advance that which is crucial for making globally responsible progress real.
On the Monday and Tuesday several working groups (students, Deans, sustainability rating and accreditation initiatives, CSR Directors in Higher Education and more) will be meeting at Kedge Business School to progress their own work.
On Wednesday the 16th of May there will be a cross-road event and shared learning journey which brings all the working groups together.
On Thursday and Friday (17–18 May) the annual gathering of the GRLI Partnership will take place.
Global responsibility is indeed of concern to “me”, “we” and “all of us”. Cela nous concerne tous.
