Bringing our global community to a new platform

Who are we?

GlobalSouthTech (GST) originally started in New York City; we’re now in more than 43 cities worldwide and we’ve organized over 60 meetups connecting tech stakeholders — including entrepreneurs and investors — around the world.

The goal of the GST community is to foster and create cross-border partnerships in the area of investments, AI, fintech, Technology-Media-Telecom, edtech, e-commerce, and product market expansion between the emerging markets of “the Global South”.

That’s not an easy goal, but we’re a small, scrappy team backed by a large community, so we’re making it happen! Check out how on our website and Instagram, among other places.

Why are we on Medium?

You may have heard about one of our events or seen one of our videos in your Instagram or LinkedIn feed, but you also may have not. And that’s why we’re here: we have to reach everyone in as many places as possible if we want to achieve our mission.

Our events are great for anyone who wants to makes new connections in-person and our videos provide concise insights on the tech players and opportunities in emerging markets, but not everyone can attend a panel or watch a video. Writing is another opportunity for us to share with you who we’re meeting and what we’re learning as our community grows, and that often takes more than a tweet, so here we are!

What can you expect from us?

You can always find event updates, videos, and other posts on our social media pages, but this space will go beyond a photo or listicle: We want to share what we’re reading about in tech and innovation with you, but we also want to recap our travels, do a deep-dive on interesting trends/sectors, and spotlight some of the entrepreneurs and companies we’re meeting.

How these topics will be “tagged” is something we’re working on, but you will see new information about countries you may not hear much about and you will learn about tech beyond the products or websites that you visit. Whether you agree with our insights or not, they will be worth considering as we all think about how the “innovation economy” is growing, who it’s for, and how to shape it. Stay tuned for more…
