Many years ago, when I worked for Media and Ad agencies, I had a mission “to land a job opportunity in a major consumer brand”. A job in the Traveling or CPG industry (the black soda brand was “it” for me), would have been ideal and an ultimate professional goal.

Little did I know, that a future me would be absolutely in love with Tech. Today, I cannot conceive working in a specific market vertical, and here is why.

The technology industry is constantly changing. It embraces and boosts people that are creative, autonomous, and driven. It has been such an amazing opportunity to re-discover my career interests, skills, and weaknesses, too.

So, I thought of creating a checklist of the most relevant and professional-shaping lessons, that I’ve learned (and confirmed).

What I’ve learned

1.I learned how to talk more technically, about business envisioning, and actionable roadmaps. Also, that no matter how up-to-date you think you are, you really are not, because many things are going on at the same time you are wrapping up a project.

2.I learned first-hand, how challenging it is for an organization to go through a Digital Transformation and how to, myself, help drive change despite what the fear of changing implies for any human being.

No matter how current and tech-debt free your technology is, if you don’t create a safe environment for your staff, change it’s not going to happen. At least how you intended it to happen.

3.I confirmed, that the greatest and most highly motivated teams are those that are multi-disciplinary, diverse, and respectful to one another. And that people that are on board with these values will surely achieve awesome results and create a huge impact, which will be compensated in their career development.

4.I’ve learned as well, as a professional woman, that as women we are an amazing force.

I’m privileged and grateful to count on such amazing female leaders and peers who thrive every day, and that work hard to make change happen.

For an industry that is male predominated mostly, the fact that I work in a place that gets the importance of equal opportunities and actionable initiatives, it’s priceless. Again, wouldn’t change that in the world.

5.And finally, I believe we can build a better world. I’ve confirmed that working on improving our workplace, is one way to get there. After all, we do spend most of our lives dedicating time to our professional interests.

So, if you are wondering what to do with your career development, come to Technology, we are totally welcoming you.
