Globatalent, the sports blockchain platform that will decentralize the sports industry and bring complete financial transparency to the multi-billion dollar sports industry has had an incredible start to its life as a business. One of the reasons why Globatalent has gained great traction over recent months is down the world renown names that have happily put themselves forward as ‘Official Supporters’ of the project. The long list contains brilliant sports people from all over the globe including an ex NBA veteran, a multiple world chess champion, an ATP national number 1 tennis star, a F1 driver and one of the leading organizations in the world of esports — for more information and for a full list of supporters click here. The list also contains two football players who were called up to the 2018 World Cup in Russia. We are now approaching the Quarter-Final stage of the tournament and here is how their time on the biggest stage in football has gone so far.

Shin Tae-Yong shocked the South Korean and world media this summer when he decided to call up Globatalent official supporter Lee Seung-Woo in his final squad for the World Cup. It was widely expected that the manager would stick to the experience that his nation currently has in its roster. Tae-Yong had other ideas and decided that the enormous potential and ability Lee Seung-Woo possesses was enough to give him his first taste of international action at the highest level of world football. Seung-Woo even managed to make the cut ahead of players such as Lee Chung-Yong, a player whose reputation and talent has seen him light up the Premier League at clubs such as Bolton Wanderers and Crystal Place over the last decade.

The first match for South Korea was against Sweden. With South Korea trailing the match due to a Andrea Granqvist penalty in the 62nd minute, Tae-Yong knew he needed to bring on someone with quality to potentially change the outcome of the match. In the 72nd minute, Koo Ja-Cheol was substituted for Lee Seung-Woo, the glimmer of hope for the South Korean fans arrived as Seung-Woo lifted the mood with his silky skills and pacey maneuvers. Unfortunately, he was unable to change the fortune of the team and South Korea lost the game 1–0.

Next, South Korea headed to Rostov to face the mighty Mexico — an incredibly exciting match for any neutral supporter. As expected, Seung-Woo was on the bench and as Mexico took the lead through another penalty, Tae-Yong needed to act and bring up the speed of the game. Enter Lee Seung-Woo, the wonderkid of the South Korean game and the pure energy of a future global star. His savvy moves and exceptional passing ability again improved spirits in the South Korean camp. Despite his lively appearance, South Korea were defeated 2–1 to the Mexicans but their performances as a team would make a nation proud.

Due to the two losses in the group stage, South Korea faced Germany knowing that they were unable to reach the last-16 stages of the tournament. Lee Seung-Woo did not enter the pitch during this match but he would have contributed to the dynamics and motivation that allowed his country to shock the world and thrash defending World Champions Germany to a 2–0 defeat causing an early elimination for one of the bookmakers early favorites for the competition.

The tournament for Globatalent Official Supporter Lee Seung-Woo has been a success overall. The highly regarded player was not expected to even make the squad and instead he entertained the world with his two cameo appearances. The fans of South Korea must be in awe of the potential they will have in future World Cups in Qatar and North America knowing that they will have Lee Seung-Woo in their squads when he has reached his potential and at the peak of his game.

Unlike Lee Seung-Woo, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that Official Globatalent Supporter and FC Barcelona striker Luis Suarez would be featuring in Russia’s World Cup. Having appeared in South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014, Luis Suarez is one of the core players of Uruguay’s national team. World famous and world class, every football fan in the world fills up with pure ecstasy at the possibility of being able to watch him play.

Uruguay’s World Cup has gone perfectly so far, their first match against Egypt ended with a Uruguay 1–0 win and plenty of opportunities arrived at Suarez’s feet as his teammates were learning how to provide assists to a player of his quality. It comes as no surprise then that the next match against Saudi Arabia also finished 1–0 and the scorer was Globatalent Supporter Luis Suarez. Uruguay managed to qualify from their group with a game to spare and Suarez managed to explode onto the scene with a purely inspirational goal.

The final match of the Group Stage for two-times World Cup winners Uruguay was against the hosts of the Tournament, Russia. Russia had started fantastically, thrashing both Saudi Arabia and Egypt and scoring plenty of goals in the process. It took only 10 minutes before Luis Suarez opened the scoring for Uruguay — much to the host fans disgust. Even when your country is playing way beyond expectation, it is impossible to stop a player of Suarez’s quality. Suarez contributed as his teammates tore apart Russia’s defence and the game ended 3–0, meaning Uruguay managed to win the group stage without even letting in a goal in any of their three matches.

Uruguay entered the last-16 stage and could not have faced a harder opponent. Portugal and their star player Cristiano Ronaldo had put in remarkable performances against the strong oppositions of Spain, Iran and Morocco and this was going to be a match of Goliath vs Goliath. Suarez linked up with Cavani and their partnership scared even the remarkable defence that Portugal are fortunate to have. Two goals from Cavani, including an explosive finish from a beautiful one-two with Suarez helped Uruguay on their way to the Quarter-final stage as they beat Portugal 2–1. France will be the opponents for the next round in a must-watch match.

The representation and brilliant performances by both Lee Seung-Woo and Luis Suarez will do both wonders for their profile and also continue the pride that the Globatalent project has for them. Future World Cups will have footballers who fulfilled their potential and made it to the highest level thanks to blockchain decentralization and the Globatalent platform. The platform will welcome everyone, regardless of sport, gender, race etc and allow athletes to reach the peak of their game and therefore it comes to no surprise that two of the World Cup 2018 stars are supporting the project. Fan participation is important in sport and blockchain provides a tool for the supporters to be more involved in their favorite sport than ever before, for more information on how, visit — www.globatalent.com
