Meet Elizabeth White, GlobeMed’s new Managing Director

To the GlobeMed Network:

With gratitude and excitement, I would like to give a warm “hello” to the GlobeMed network! As GlobeMed Headquarter’s new Managing Director, I am thrilled to collaborate with the GlobeMed team to shape the strategic vision of the organization and bring that vision to life. I look forward to strengthening our operational and financial systems and to coaching and supporting this incredible team as we work collectively as changemakers in the global health equity movement.

I am new to the GlobeMed network, but I can already feel the energy, passion and commitment that makes this community unique and powerful. I hope to bring a new perspective to GlobeMed’s important work while building on the strengths of the organization. I am extremely passionate about facilitating connection among individuals with varied lived experiences and viewpoints, something I value as a particular strength of GlobeMed’s work.

Nothing inspires me more than working toward a fair, equitable world for all people, especially those who are the most marginalized. I have strong beliefs in approaches that are strength-based, trauma-informed, inclusive, and grounded in human rights. I believe in grassroots empowerment, an ecological systems approach to human capacity building, and the power of creativity. I also believe strongly in the power of youth!

During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to intern for a summer in Usenge, Kenya, working in collaboration with a local NGO on projects related to HIV/AIDS education. After completing my MSW in Community Organizing at the University of Michigan and additional studies in Global Health Epidemiology, I joined the Peace Corps as a Youth Development Volunteer. I spent several years in northern Thailand working with a local NGO on health education projects for Shan refugees with a focus on girls’ empowerment. After returning to the U.S., I joined Girls in the Game as their Teen Programs Manager, where I got to work with amazing teenage girls all over Chicago to become strong, confident leaders through sports and health activities.

My worldview has been completely shaped by these experiences. The deep, meaningful relationships I have been honored to cultivate have contributed to my personal and professional growth. By listening to stories, connecting over shared experiences, recognizing unique challenges due to privilege and power, working toward common goals, and most importantly having fun together, these relationships have helped me become a more thoughtful, empathetic, and inspired leader.

I believe that goodness, interconnectedness, empathy, hard work, and dedication to justice are the foundational tools for collectively cultivating a thriving, healthy, socially-just world. I see these values reflected in the GlobeMed network — from the individuals to the approach. I am incredibly excited to join this amazing community and can’t wait to grow together!

With gratitude,

Elizabeth
