A Scenic Day Trip Into the Mountains of Trinidad
A drive you can easily take yourself while in Trinidad and Tobago
We set off around 3pm from the town of Arima — a bustling municipality that hugs the southern side of the Northern Range of mountains and is located roughly halfway between the western and eastern borders of the island of Trinidad. Leaving at this time, in the hottest part of the afternoon, might seem a bit nutty, but the mountains offer respite from the heat with cooler temperatures and fresh springs to splash around in so it actually makes perfect sense to set off at the hottest part of the day.
And yes, this time of the year in Trinidad still gets plenty warm during the day. Such is the Caribbean life. I forget what winter even is here! Harsh, I know!
Arima is a pretty typical large town/small city in Trinidad of around 35,000 people. At first it may seem a bit short on space with narrow roads and houses and shops in such close proximity to one another, but to me this atmosphere feels positively electric. Driving through I always love checking out the houses and businesses…
