No, this isn’t the opening line of a joke

I was sitting in the rocking chair, feeding the baby when I heard my husband poking his head in the room, his phone to his ear. I groggily glanced at the time — 2 in the morning.

“Do you want to go to France in May?” he asked. I blinked. Was I dreaming? “Who are you talking to?” I asked.

He was on the phone with his brother, who had found a great flight deal to France.

“So, should we go?” He asked again.

What was happening? I was usually the one talking him into going on trips.

“But…the baby,” I answered, “I’m breastfeeding, I can’t leave.”

“Oh the kids will come,” was his answer.

“Book it.”

That’s how we found ourselves a few months later, heading to Southern France with our two-year-old and nine-month-old.

We traveled with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law — and their toddler and baby as well. My husband’s parents also decided to go, but they would be able to stay longer and choose their own path for part of the trip, so we weren’t with them the entire time.
