A visit to Assen was never on the agenda. On the contrary, the circumstances were such that this quaint capital city in the northeastern part of the Netherlands emerged as the lone viable alternative on what had been a hectic day. You have read it right. This city, with around 70k inhabitants, is indeed a provincial capital.

That being said, being the capital of the province of Drenthe is not Assen’s main identity. Those who follow motorsports, or, for that matter, are enthusiastic about aspects related to motorcycles, are well aware of this Dutch city. Assen hosts the Dutch TT, one of the most high-profile and hugely popular races in the MotoGP calendar, in June every year.

In fact, TT Assen holds the record for being the only circuit to have hosted a motorcycle GP event every year since the inaugural Grand Prix racing world championship was held in 1949. Besides, the TT Circuit Assen, established back in 1925 and also known as the Cathedral of Speed, plays host to something or the other every week.
