Staying in Hostels is one of the most popular and cheapest ways of traveling the world, but you have to take some sacrifices which not everyone is ready to take!

When you are a passionate traveller, and have travelled a lot already, you’ve surely experienced a stay in a hostel at least once during your traveling times. Hostels are a real money saver and therefore, many times, the big secret behind a person being able to travel the world for a long period of time.

Hostels are not only popular among backpackers, but also among digital nomads or simple long or short term budget travellers.

I’ve personally stayed in hostels many times in so many different countries, recently I’ve spent a combined total of 8 weeks in hostels during a backpacking trip through Mexico and Colombia. What I can tell you that might surprise you: I’ve not only met young people there, but also elder people, some as old as 60!

I’ve come across people of all sorts in hostels, mostly travellers, but also people that decided to spent their pension on the road and that moved from place to place, becoming nomads by only staying in hostels!

From a financial perspective, Hostels are a no brainer as a long term traveller or even nomad, as you save so much money on accommodation compared to hotels or airbnbs/apartments. But…
