At the beginning of the year, when I had underlined my travel goals on this platform, I had mentioned Bratislava seemed imminently doable. It’s been less than six months since those travel goals were set and the Slovak capital has been taken care of.

As I have mentioned a few times before, pragmatism defines my travel plans, and Bratislava had always seemed a realistic possibility. It had been a city I had not visited before, or rather was guilty of ignoring on a number of occasions. This time, I was all set to make amends and explore one of the unlikeliest of capital cities in depth.

My first impressions of Bratislava reeked of ambiguity at best. I found it to be a beautiful city alright, but it did not seem like a national capital to me. It did not have the urgency that is synonymous with the official headquarters of any country. On the contrary, it is pretty laid back. It is a lot less crowded, and there are fewer tourists compared to the nearby capital cities, like Vienna and Prague. In fact, it is a combination of all these factors that made me to develop an instant fondness…
