Travel planning has always been part of the exciting journey. Picking the destination, searching for flight and hotel deals, and my favorite, researching activities and places to eat. Knowing the ins and outs of each place I visit without much spontaneity is how I usually operate.

I shouldn’t put it so lightly. In reality, I obsess over the travel planning part of the trip, spending countless hours researching. I know a substantial amount about a city or place before we arrive, not leaving much to the imagination.

I’ve looked at the maps, seeing what restaurants and shops are close to each hotel or AirBnB. I know how long it takes to get to each destination and what mode of transportation to use. To be honest, I have offered up the planning to my two daughters at times, but they always decline.

“Hey, pick a day or an activity to plan and I will add it to the itinerary.”

“No thanks, Mom. We like it when you do it.”

But, do they really? My husband doesn’t ever want to do any of the planning but he also doesn’t like being overscheduled.
