I think I discovered the magic of Capri.

This magnificent island gem off the southwestern Italian coast has been a playground for the Roman Emperors of the past and for the rich and famous since then.

Capri is a natural beauty of rugged cliffs surrounding much of the small, 10-kilometer island, famous for its Blue Grotto. The deep blue sea is dotted with more yachts than I have encountered anywhere.

And if you need evidence that this is a playground for the wealthy, stroll down the shopping streets to see the most expensive and famous designer stores.

I was with a small tour group from nearby Sorrento on a day trip to explore this tiny island.

Capri reminds me of the French Riviera with expensive villas hugging the mountainsides, the rugged terrain and winding mountain roads with switchbacks and huge drop-offs sure…
