On our 2022 visit to Penang, we decided to first focus on Georgetown, before heading up to the beach in Tanjung Bungah. To that end, we booked a six-night stay at the Bayview Hotel which put us right in the middle of Georgetown and within walking distance of most of the streets and sights of the city.

Georgetown, the capital of the state of Penang, was established as the first British settlement in S.E. Asia by Francis Light in 1786. The historical core of Georgetown, where we chose to stay, has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008.

We arrived at the Bayview Hotel in the late evening after a train ride from Tanjung Malim. Wanting more to relax than venture out that evening, we unpacked and made our way to the 28th floor of the hotel to the revolving restaurant and sky bar with a panoramic view of Georgetown. Sitting at the sky bar sipping a margarita, we took in the aerial sights of our home for the next six days.
