History and Culture in Washington D.C. — More than Politics

Since 2010, we’ve visited our nation's capital three times. Twice were for special events and once we went for a family vacation. It is one of my favorite places to visit.

Washington D.C. is alive with culture and history. These are the things we focused on during our trips to the capital of the United States. Our last trip, in 2019, was a special trip as our youngest son won the Congressional Art Contest for our Congressman’s district in Wisconsin.

He was recognized at the national contest ceremony in June 2019. It was a special trip that included special tours of the capitol building escorted by an aide from our congressman’s office and a viewing of our son’s artwork, along with the hundreds of other winners in the Cannon Tunnel that connects the Cannon Office Building with the Capitol. This art contest has recognized rising artistic talent by showcasing the student winners’ art in the tunnel since 1982. The tunnel is brightly lit and traversed daily by congressmen and women from all over the U.S.
