I and my family visited the Great Ocean Road during the 2021/22 summer holidays. We have been there before for day trips but this is the first time we spent more than a night there.

Where is the Great Ocean Road?

The Great Ocean Road is a 243-kilometer stretch of road along Victoria’s coastline, starting from Torquay and ending in Allansford.

Where to Stay?

We stayed in Apollo Bay which is approximately halfway between Melbourne and the end of Great Ocean Road.

Apollo Bay is a small coastal town that offers amazing beach houses and hotels. Since it is mid-way, it will be easier to explore different areas of interest on the GOR.

Apollo Bay beach and playground became almost our backyard where we spent 5 evenings out of 7.

It became our routine that after returning back from sightseeing, activities, and other attractions visit, we would spend some time on the beach or the playground before calling it a day.

What to Carry?

Apart from the usuals, make sure you pack these too or you will have to buy them at the local stores.

  • Beach towels, Swimming Costumes, Sand toys, Surfboards, Camping chairs
  • Sunscreen lotion, Insect repellent
