This summer, I was in Central London on a sunny Wednesday and had all the time in the world. I wanted to do something that combined both public transport and the power of my very own legs.

As I was thinking about what to do, bus no. 9 came along — a route I knew well and had used all the time when I lived in Hammersmith many moons ago. Without further procrastination, I jumped right on it.

Why not go to the end?, I thought to myself.

Finding a window seat at the top of the double-decker bus, I leaned back and enjoyed the vistas until the driver announced ‘Last Stop!’

The last stop was Aldwych. As it was a weekday, I bumped into both smartly dressed workers and casually attired tourists in the same space. I suppose I was somewhere in the middle. I knew where to go, so my steps were fast and light, but I wasn’t in a business suit and I wasn’t stressed about meeting some deadline.

The first stop was a dosa restaurant in Covent Garden near Aldwych. I’d been here before some years ago and it had a serene vibe on a weekday. I took a window seat to watch people go by.
