We travel on off days and explore remote or busy places in foreign countries for so many different reasons. Luckily, not everyone has the same understanding and concept of a perfect vacation, otherwise, we’d all be flocking to the same countries.

However, if we’re in for a beach vacation in a five-star hotel, plan to cycle from East to West, or hike somewhere in the mountains, there is one thing we all have in common.

We like to be treated with respect and kindness (and hopefully do the same toward the other side). Nothing else makes us smile more than a friendly invitation from a local, a stranger who is giving us some directions or a staff member from the resort we’re staying in who gives us a tip on where and how to find the best bar in town.

Hospitality goes far beyond inviting someone to eat at your table but can be exactly that. It’s a big word with different understandings in different languages and cultures and yet, it somehow always boils down to the same thing.

Experiencing kindness abroad.
