Lahaina Town, Maui: What I’ll Remember With Great Fondness

My heart goes out to this town loaded with Hawaiian history. Wildfires have devasted this hub of life on Maui and popular tourist destination.

By now, you’ve probably heard that the town of Lahaina on the Hawaiian Island of Maui has been devastated by wildfires. Property, and more importantly, lives, have been lost. They expect the death toll to increase today.

Historical landmarks have also suffered destruction by fire.

I’ve been to Maui three times and each of those times have visited Lahaina. The dates of our week-long visits were from 2009–2022. Obviously, we love Maui to have made the trip there repeatedly.

Lahaina’s Banyan Tree

One of my most favorite places in Maui is the ancient Banyan Tree in the heart of Lahaina. This tree, an exotic species, was planted in April of 1873 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Protestant Mission in Lahaina (source).
