Laos Welcomed Me With A Travel Snag Turned Into Beauty
When you get stuck in a remote Laotian village, and that’s totally fine.
The view you get from inside Buddha’s head in Chiang Rai, not bad uh?
Some of you may have read my article in which I praised Luang Prabang, a town in Laos that I fell in love with as soon as I disembarked from the slowboat. No, even this time, the subject of the article isn’t going to be the experience on the precarious yet iconic boat, but in a way, it will be its prologue. I thought the troubled events leading up to the navigation also deserved a separate story.
In the previous days, I had stayed in Chiang Rai with a friend, who would later accompany me for the rest of the trip to Laos. After visiting the wonderful temples that make Thailand’s northernmost province famous, we planned to head for the border. Once across, we would be able to board the slowboat from the small Laotian town just across the border, Huay Xai.
The view from Huay Xai, Laos. On the other side of the river, it’s Thailand.
