My First Visit To A Foreign Country
A Fellowship at Salzburg
Looking into my papers today, I found my Salzburg Seminar certificate I inserted below. I had just got some pictures restored.
Yana Bostongirl asked me several times in the comment section to write about my first visit to a foreign land where I had got a prestigious fellowship.
So here I go with my experiences in Salzburg, Austria. It was the time when the internet was intermittent and slow and there were no mobile phones. We carried big cameras with us while traveling.
A friend who was a Fellow of Salzburg told me that she had been to a very prestigious Seminar at Salzburg.
I asked her if I could go.
She told me to take a look at their brochures and if there was anything of interest, I could apply. She also told me it was not easy to get this scholarship.
They had a three-part screening system and then an interview and many applicants from different countries. India was not on their radar and they were very selective.
I had already done my doctorate and had never been abroad.
She asked me to search the internet. In India, we had just started buying desktop computers for home use at that time. They were locally made, ugly, and huge.
