Sorry, France, I Still Love You, But I May Have Fallen For Another

I’m sure it was only a holiday fling, but Spain was so beautiful so joyful and exhilarating. And there was so much good food to share.

I’ve recently arrived home from a two-week trip to Spain — I was travelling with my daughter and son-in-law who hope to move there from the US. This was an exploratory trip to scout out possible locations. No decisions made yet, but they were won over by Spain. Me too, but keep it to yourself, I don’t want France to get jealous.

We met up for an overnight stay in Madrid, a five-hour train ride from my home in southern France. First stop, the Mercado de San Miguel, a sprawling, century-old, wrought iron and glass structure with tapas, tapas, and more tapas. Torn between sampling and taking pictures, it was love at first sight — and bite.

At 68, I started a new chapter in my life: I moved to France. Alone. It turned out to be quite the page-turner. Still is — even when age insists on a part.
