Our four weeks in Sanya, China’s version of Hawai’i had come to an end. The rent for our condo in Sanya was going to triple for the next two weeks because of the Chinese New Year celebrations. We had to leave as our condo had been rented out long before we planned our winter break holiday.

Once off the plane in Nanning, we checked into our hotel and then began to walk around the city, in the older central part. Preparations for the Chinese New Year were seen in quite a few locations, including this installation in the main square of the city.

This was our first Chinese New Year in China following our move to the country almost six months earlier. We continued our walk using our city map and a guide we found on the Internet. We wanted to see as much of the place as we could before we were to fly home to Changzhou and resume our teaching duties.
