The “Casino Promenade” in Constanța, Romania
A sunset visit to the Black Sea
We’ve just returned from a rather epic trip to Milan, Italy and to Romania. My husband’s dear friend married a woman from Romania last year and we were invited, along with several family and friends, to join in on a journey to see Romania through her eyes.
Traveling with the “Romanian Contingency” was such a hoot. From watching them blow smoke rings at a hookah bar to visiting Dracula’s tomb to visiting a country farmhouse for a traditional welcoming in of the new year, we had some amazing moments.
Our friends recently bought an apartment in Constanța, on the Black Sea. It is still under construction, but it is nearing completion and they hadn’t seen it in a year, so we all piled into a van and journeyed to the Black Sea for an afternoon to check it out.
It was quick trip, but we did have time to take in a few sites, among them a little stroll along the “Casino Promenade.”
The top photo is of a casino, that, in its day, was the Monte Carlo of Romania. Completed in 1910, according to the plans of architects Daniel Renard and Petre Antonescu, Constanta Casino is a stunning art nouveau structure, perched on a cliffside overlooking the Black Sea.
