At the end of June 2023, we decided to escape the heat of Florida and visit the Adirondack mountains. The Adirondacks have a special place in our hearts. It was the first area we lived in as a family in the US in the summer of 1992. We had a ranch house on 8 acres in the woods by a running brook, close to Whiteface Mountain. We lived in the house for two years and returned for the summers for the next ten years when our work took us overseas again.

Both our children spent their early and mid-teens in the area, working summers in Lake Placid and eventually attending college in NY state. Our son especially identifies the Adirondacks as home and visits the Adirondacks every summer with his family. His wife was born and grew up in the area, and they both have family and friends to connect with in the area whenever they visit.

We decided to visit in July, just after the dreaded Adirondack blackfly season. We flew Allegiant Air from St. Pete/Clearwater direct to Plattsburg airport. The non-stop flight took two and a half hours and was an economical and efficient way to get there.
