Walking London’s Capital Ring

Woolwich to Falconwood

I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I first attempted to complete the Capital Ring loop. At the time I had the company of a good friend and the enthusiasm of a teenager prepping themselves for their first “proper party”. In reality my friend pulled out before we arrived in Beckton due to pain on her left hip.

This time around it was my new partner who was coming with me. Already we’d been to both Oxford and Leeds together and we’d realised that we shared a passion for walking.

Before I carry on, though, an acknowledgement. I know that these come at the end of articles, but I must commend the Inner London Ramblers for the excellent work they do. Our walk would not have been as stress-free as it was had it not been for this volunteer-run organisation’s regularly updated guidelines.

We took off from Woolwich Works, a place I only became acquainted with last summer. A dance teacher friend of mine organised a series of workshops at the Acosta Centre (yes, that Acosta) and asked me to muck in. I came down on my bicycle and loved the ride so much that I returned the next day to help more.

Woolwich has fast become the place one relocates to when most of London has priced…
