Weizhou: China’s Awesome Island Getaway

Let me share a wonderful tiny island off the south coast of China with you.

Weizhou Island is a cool place. It’s one of those spots that hasn’t quite hit the mainstream travel books yet. As a result, you can find some less than beaten tracks, and you don’t exactly have to be as rich as Elon musk to have fun here.

Where on this earth is it?

It’s a volcanic island in China, south of Beihai. It’s about 20 nautical miles south of Beihai city. You need to take a ferry or even a small boat from Beihai for about 30 minutes to reach it.

People travel here to take advantage of an affordable island getaway. It’s only around 25 square kilometers, meaning that the entirety of the island is accessible in one day.

That doesn’t mean, though, that you can see everything in a single day! There is plenty to do here.

Bikes and motor scooters are available to rent at a meager price. I managed to rent a scooter for a whole day for about $12.00. It’s how most tourists get around.

You can see and do so much.

The entire island is filled with beautiful beaches. The more popular beaches also have all the usual water entertainment. Banana boats, jet skis, Underwater diving, etc., with a foreigner surcharge if…
