Oh, Rishikesh! After spending a whole month there for tourism and a 25-day yoga teacher training, it was hard to say goodbye to this amazing Indian city and its awe-inspiring mountain views (I have some more beautiful photos in store for you as you will see scrolling down).

Facts and Figures About Rishikesh

Rishikesh, also called the ‘Yoga Capital of the World’, is located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand and lies at the banks of the Ganges, called ganga in Hindi. It is a major tourist destination for Indians and foreigners alike, and many priests, sages and real yogis live there. According to the Indian Times, it is the fifth most-visited city in India.

When you google the population, you find very different numbers — more than 260k being one of them. From Delhi, you can take a direct train or bus connection or book a cab.

The city is entirely vegetarian and alcohol-free, which may seem unbelievable to a Western person! Most rainfall is expected between July and August so you best visit the city before or after — not least because of the intense heat! I was there in March which I can highly recommend. Temperatures ranged from 20 to 30°C (68 to 86°F) when I was there in 2023.
