You’ll Find Me in the Market

Mexican markets are a treasure trove

I am a recovered shopaholic. I actually despise shopping now. The first time I quit drinking a decade ago, I turned to shopping to fill the empty pit in my stomach. After wracking up a lot of credit card debt, I felt worse than before. Just like with alcohol.

When Covid times hit, I slowly stopped caring what everyone thought of me. I didn’t need a new outfit for every event because there were no more events. I decided that I’d rather use my money on other things like a new laptop, camera, and exciting vacations.

During those weird times, I found out just how calm I was not being around tons of people. When the world started to open back up, I loathed going shopping. Sometimes there is a need and you don’t have days to wait for a package. But when I do visit a mall, it’s almost like my body is allergic to the crowds because I get a headache and feel awful, trying to make it in and out as quickly as possible.

I despise shopping now except for when I am in Mexico.

The Mexican markets are so fun and festive, mostly outdoor and when the sun is shining while walking through handcrafted goodness, it feels nothing like being at home in a crowded California shopping mall.
