It looked like Germany, but was it?

A scenic view of a highway with evergreens on either side. The trees are covered in snow, and looks like a dusting of icing sugar. Snowy mountains can be seen in the middle of the road. There is only one car in front of the road.

YouTube?

The bit about the YouTube video is absolutely true.

I sometimes like to play YouTube in the background and get things done around the house. One of my favorite channels is a live camera feed which circles around various cities of the world.

Last November, one city cam caught my daughter’s attention and subsequently mine. It featured a town with high mountains covered in snow, Swiss-style chalets, and a park with colorfully illuminated evergreens in the middle. The town was vibrant, with people of all ages in their winter gear walking through and kids throwing snowballs at each other.

My husband spent some time as a child not far from that town and even remarked that he visited it over several summers.

I’d been to his neighborhood before but our daughter had never been there and had only heard stories from my husband centered around his elementary school years.

You never take us there,” she joked, referring to that area. Then we started repeating that line to him every time the feed circled back to the town.
