Monday Morning in Dublin

Ireland beckons.

--

This morning we’re taking a peek at Mondays in not one, but two charming Irish cities —Dublin and Belfast — and you can take a jobbatical in either one! Keep reading to meet our Dublin host, or take a detour first to the Belfast edition.

Meet Diego

Diego Santos is a keen digital marketer passionate about traveling and new technologies. Originally from Spain, he works as content and link-building pro in Dublin at GoConqr, an e-Learning startup with a vision to transform learning for students and teachers.

Diego’s Monday

There are two kinds of people: the ones that keep hitting the snooze button on their alarms and the ones who eagerly hop out of bed. Believe it or not, I belong to the second type, so by 7.30AM sharp I’m wide awake and preparing for the day ahead. Does that make me a morning person? I guess it does!

The beginning of a sunny day in Dublin!

The first thing I do each morning is open the curtain and look at the sky. In Ireland that is always like spinning a roulette wheel (no matter what the weatherman said the previous night). The weather will determine my mood for about the next 10 minutes.

Being from Southern Spain, you might think that the weather is a burden in my daily life in Dublin, but I’ve actually learnt to make the most of sunny days instead of taking the sun for granted.

And to be honest, the weather isn’t that bad here anyway!

After a quick shower, I have a 20-minute bus ride from the city centre to Clonskeagh — a southern suburb of Dublin — and then take a 10-minute stroll to the office.

Ranelagh from the bus — a neighbourhood between Dublin city centre & Clonskeagh. One of my favourite parts of the city.

GoConqr’s offices are split between Belfast and Dublin. Belfast is where our development team are based. Dublin is home to our sales, marketing, product, finance and HR teams. I am part of the marketing department and my role mainly involves taking care of the Spanish-speaking market, so Monday morning means catching up with all the activity of the weekend as well as starting to work on content and communication with users and partners.

Every morning we do a quick stand-up meeting to catch up with numbers and share progress with the rest of the team.

I love keeping up to date with the latest trends in the digital marketing and SEO world. The day I don’t read some blogs posts or listen to a podcast is very rare. That’s why I really like working with a small (but growing) company and being able to test different tactics and strategies. Monday morning is also the perfect time to dive into Google Analytics and start measuring the impact of those little experiments!

Pastries make Monday way easier!

Another thing I really like about working here is the diversity. Dublin is host to many start-ups and technology companies that employ people from all over the world, and GoConqr is no different! In our office we have people from Brazil, Portugal, Finland, India, the US, and Germany… so there are always plenty of good stories doing the rounds on a Monday morning!

After an intense morning, lunch is the perfect time to grab some food and go for a walk along the nearby river (the Dodder). When it comes to natural beauty, you cannot beat Ireland — it is called the Emerald Isle for a reason! The views here are just amazing!
