The hair goes waaaaay back y’all!

If you are having trouble viewing this content here’s how to fix that.

As you can see from the little slide-show of pictures above — my hair was “different.” My hair was different in a time when different wasn’t cool.

The kids in my school went to great measure to point my difference out to me, often to my great despair. I was a shy child who didn’t respond well to the attention my frizzy locks brought me. I agonized over my poofy hair to no end. Middle school was the worst.

Did you stick your finger in a light socket? (No, it was a set of keys to be precise.)

Which one of your parents is black? (Would have been easier to answer if one of them had been!)

What HAPPENED to your hair? (WTH is that supposed to mean??)

What are you? (Meaning nationality, but still a rude way to ask!)

People — STOP asking me if I stuck my finger in a light socket! It is NOT funny.

And the random items people shoved into my wooly mane and the people who felt that touching my hair was just — ok. Um, stop touching me! Yes, they spring back up…
