County and American Red Cross team up to bring fire safety to homebound seniors

A new partnership between the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the American Red Cross New Jersey Region and the Gloucester County Division of Senior Services is providing fire safety visits to homebound residents who are part of the county’s Serv-A-Tray program.

The American Red Cross New Jersey Region smoke alarm installation team visits senior citizens to provide educational material and install smoke detectors in the home.

Informational flyers have been sent to the 361 Serv-A-Tray clients that receive at-home meals from the county inviting them to request a home fire safety visit.

The American Red Cross New Jersey Region has received 25 requests from Serv-A-Tray clients to date. They visited five homes last week and installed 11 smoke alarms while conducting home fire safety visits. They hope to have all 25 Serv-A-Tray requests addressed by end of August. Their Home Fire Campaign has provided more than 20,000 smoke alarm installations across NJ since it began in October, 2014.
