Gloucester County is now accepting applications for 2018 Certified Gardener Program

Certified Gardeners are trained volunteers who assist county residents with gardening needs

Gloucester County’s Office of Land Preservation is now accepting applications for the 2018 Gloucester County Certified Gardener Program.

“Participants in this program will gain valuable knowledge and strengthen their skills on a variety of horticultural topics taught by the most experienced leaders in the industry,” Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said.

The trainees will receive a minimum of 50 hours of training and in exchange, the participant is asked to volunteer 60 hours back to the program. The Certified Gardeners are trained volunteers who assist county residents by answering their gardening, lawn and insect questions, offer gardening classes to youth and adults, grow vegetables for local food banks and assist the county, municipalities and local organizations with community beautification projects.

“If you have an enthusiasm for gardening and a desire to give back to your community, this program is the perfect match for both the beginner and experienced gardener,” Freeholder Frank J. DiMarco, liaison to the Office of Land Preservation, said.

Classes will be held on Wednesday mornings in the auditorium of the Office of Government Services, Building A, located at 1200 N Delsea Drive, Clayton, from 9 a.m. until noon, starting Jan. 18, 2018 and continuing through early June.
