Registration is now open for the inaugural Unified 5K Trail Run and Fun Run, taking place on Sunday, Oct. 22 at Rowan University.

As part of Special Olympics New Jersey’s Unified program, the Unified 5K Trail Run and non-competitive 1K will feature athletes with and without disabilities racing for a cause. Unified Sports brings together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities to train and compete side-by-side, each one a meaningful and equal part of the event.

Inspira Health Network, who broke ground on a new hospital adjacent to Rowan’s West Campus in May of this year, signed on to be a presenting sponsor for the race. Inspira employees are encouraged to participate in this first ever Unified 5K.

“It’s an honor to partner with Special Olympics New Jersey and to support the 5K Trail Run,” said John DiAngelo, president and CEO of Inspira Health Network. “This event is one of many examples of our joint goal of helping people improve their lives and achieve a better quality of life within the communities we serve.”

Rowan University students are also welcome to participate in the race, and will be able to register using their RowanCard. Special Olympics New Jersey aims to spread Unified Sports in colleges across the state, and the Unified 5K Trail Run is another step to more programs in South Jersey.
