Addison McMichael of Mullica Hill celebrated her sixth birthday last Saturday, Jan. 28 with her friends. Instead of presents, she asked her friends to bring donations for the Gloucester County Animal Shelter at her animal shelter themed birthday party.

During her party the girls all made blankets for the dogs at the shelter and then came to the shelter to drop off the blankets and donations. Addison and her guests were treated to a tour of the shelter, and Freeholder Dan Christy stopped by to give Addison a certificate from the Freeholder Board and to thank her and her friends for caring so much about the animals.

“Addison and her friends are the epitome of generosity and caring, and I am proud of them for their great service,” Freeholder Dan Christy said. “It takes a lot of character for a child to sacrifice gifts and instead ask for donations to be made to the animals for their birthday. We are all are grateful to Addison, her family and friends for making the trip to the shelter with their donations. These are great kids and we can all take a page from their kindness.”

Christy is the liaison to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter.
