Ben Vereen is bringing his one man show, “Steppin’ Out with Ben Vereen,” to the Broadway Theatre of Pitman on August 12 for two shows at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Vereen’s legendary performances on stage, screen and television continue to inspire and influence artists of all ages. On the Broadway stage, Vereen has starred in “Wicked,” “Fosse,” “I’m Not Rappaport,” “Hair,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Pippin,” “Grind,” “Jelly’s Last Jam” and “A Christmas Carol.” His role in “Pippin” garnered him both the prestigious Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award for “Best Actor in a Musical.”

Vereen has also starred in a number of notable television shows. Most recently, Vereen played the role of Porter in the American crime drama series, “Sneaky Pete” on Amazon which has just been renewed for its second season. Other memorable television roles include Chicken George in “ROOTS” and Louis Armstrong in “Louis Armstrong — Chicago Style.” His television special “Ben Vereen: His Roots,” received seven Emmy Awards.

Vereen has been dazzling audiences throughout the United States with his one man show, “Steppin’ Out with Ben Vereen.” Through this show, Vereen was the first simultaneous winner of the “Entertainer of the Year,” “Rising Star,” and “Song and Dance Star” awards from the American Guild of Variety Artists.

“Steppin’ Out with Ben Vereen” is a unique blend of artistry and takes audiences on a timeless journey of the Broadway songbook with a tribute to Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. Songs featured include, “Defying Gravity,” “Mr. Bojangles,” “For Good” and “Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries.”

“I call it my gratitude show,” said Vereen, who survived a 1992 accident in which he was struck by a car and severely injured while walking along a road near his home in Malibu, Calif. “I use it to thank audiences for sticking with me all these years.”
