Hi Gluggers,

You’ll have probably seen in the last few days, we’ve introduced a new Glug Membership to cover costs for the next London Event, this post it to explain a little bit more about why we’re doing this and our plans for the next 6 to 8 months.

As always we’re committed to keeping ticket prices down. Too many industry events are overpriced (some @£200+). We believe the community should always pay as little as possible and we’ll use sponsors money to cover costs.

The Membership in brief

The primary reason for launching the membership is to cover costs for our next House of Vans event, with £13 going directly to fund this. As we mentioned in our open letter from June, we were very lucky that the first event at House of Vans was covered by the wonderful crew at House of Vans & Vans entirely. (Caveat: We did announce that it was likely a one-off).

For those of you who attended the Summer Party we hope you’ll agree it’s one of the most exciting spaces in London and allows us to run the best Glug talks events we can.

You can see the videos from the night here.

With an amazing lineup of speakers for December including: FutureDeluxe, DBLG, Studio Output, Brendan Dawes, What3Words, Layer, Found, Shotopop, Box of Toys, Territory & Barney Steel of Marshmallow Laser Feast.

We have a Massive Talks Room, a Cinema Room, an Exhibition, lots of amazing pop ups and stalls and of course bars and the skate park!

You can buy a ticket/membership here (Priced £17 — we only have 300 left).

The second reason we wanted to do this, was we wanted a mechanism to reward people that continued to support us. We often get approached with lots of freebies and offers and this membership allows us to send these directly to you, without using the meetup.

It also means we can reward people’s loyalty with early announcements.

In addition you might have seen that we’re also doing a special Xmas pack with some extra subsidised goodies.

Feel free to pick which ever one you prefer!

New Year, New Plans

In the new year, we’re looking to also design and build a totally new digital platform (it’s been long overdue), and create a much more editorial and community focused website. Some of the sponsors money that we’ve been lucky enough to secure recently will go directly into this and a portion of the ticket sales (once all the overheads such as AV hire, Sound Technicians, Security, full time staff salaries, web costs, ticket fees, suppliers payments, and the Free Beer have been paid off).

17 Campaign

As you’ll see from the Xmas event we’ve been asked to work on an amazing project for GlobalGoals.org. Working with some of the world’s best artists and illustrators we’re going to create a series of images and posters to showcase the goals for the UN. The final posters will be shown to global leaders at Davos in Switzerland in February.

New Glugs

This year we launched in Leeds, Oxford, Amsterdam and Stockholm. Couple this with the ever growing and awesomely well established events in London, Brighton, New York and Birmingham we’re soon to open branches in San Fransisco, Paris, Philadelphia, Bournemouth, Reading, Chicago and Austin.

As always we’re always looking for people to take on the format and run it in cities around the world.

Please email Malin@glugevents.com if you know someone that fancies hosting!

Mr Bingo, our previous Master of Ceremonies, has since run away to Derby we hear with a bundle of Kickstarter Cash, we’ll be looking for a replacement. (He didn’t really).

Lastly once again, we wanted to thank everyone for their support up to now.

Especially your ongoing support, the amazing talent who give up their own personal time to speak at the events, all the volunteers and internal teams across all the chapters. It means a lot to us and we’d be nothing without that help.

We look forward to seeing you on the 17th December.

Nick & Ian.
