Before proceeding with the printing of a document, whether it’s a brochure or the packaging of our favorite perfume, a file check is executed so that it meets all of the specified specifications to achieve a more than good result. The specifications in nearly all cases indicate which and how many color channels must be present and require abundance for all those graphic elements that exit the page size. More in-depth control can then check the overprint and / or drilling of the elements, the presence of special inks, a properly placed puncture box, and so on.

And then...

Once the actual printing is started the controls do not end.
The printing process is constantly monitored and corrected if there are problems with the registry.

What is the register? Who “mastics” this topic every day knows what it is when it comes to logging. For neophytes instead, “register” directly from the Hoepli dictionary, it also means: — Format the forms in the printing machine so that the margins and lines printed on a sheet face exactly match those of the other facade

– Small cross sign engraved on the edges of each sheet to get the perfect overlapping of the colors with the exact overlapping of the individual crosses in subsequent print phases: put a sheet to r.

Trichrome off register, when the colors do not overlap perfectly

There are so many unique solutions to support these controls, but there is a novelty for the printing and packaging market.
An “intelligent” bar was produced by Q.I. Press Controls, a Dutch company that develops and manufactures innovative high-quality optical measurement and control systems and operates worldwide in the field of newsprint, magazine and packaging. All control types are conveyed to a single point in the printing process. This means that ink density adjustment, color, perforation, log and side log control performed on the basis of the entire image on the printed document are now integrated into a full one-hundred- per cent.

IBS-100 (Intelligent Bar Sensor — full 100% inspection), this is the name of the solution proposed by Q.I. Press Controls, is a unique and innovative system, also thanks to the acquisition of INTRO international. It allows a full 100% inspection and can be combined with existing QIPC software for measuring and checking the logs and ink density. To measure the quality in digital printing, any missing lines from the print image or logbook are detected with IBS-100. The additional web-viewing feature (web-viewing) facilitates the work of operators by making all these items visible during the printing process. This is the world’s first product of this type, no one has ever been able to group so many functions into a single sensor bar.

It is also worth noting the attention dedicated to detail. The IBS-100 performs very small text controls and barcodes, an indispensable feature in the extremely demanding and highly standardized environment of the packaging and digital printing industry.

GMDE is Q.I. Press Controls partner, since many years. Major installations of color control products were followed by GMDE, both in the field of daily newspaper printing and commercial printing.
Together to Q.I. Press Controlswill also participate in Label Expo Europe 2017. We’ll waiting for you at stand 6D18 where you’ll see IBS100 at work!

IBS-100 is the latest innovation of Q.I. Press Controls. IBS-100 allows you to perform a full 100% inspection based on the image to be printed, and can be used on both digital and packaging printers. The additional web-viewing feature (web-viewing) facilitates the work of operators by making adjustments totally visible during the printing process. The operator can zoom in on the areas that require attention to inspect them in detail. IBS-100 enables full-spectrum inspection at an extremely high resolution. In addition to detecting tiny errors and missing lines (inkjet printing), high resolution also allows for the recognition of small text, barcodes, and 2D codes.

  • Full 100% inspection
  • Display of printed ribbon
  • Check bar codes, 2D codes, and match data
  • Color Register
  • Ink density
