LETTER
Reflecting on Summer As We Start a New School Year
Dear GMWP colleagues,
As we begin another school year today, I am reminded how blessed I am to be a member of the Greater Madison Writing Project. We have the best professional home with each other, a home where we can learn together, a home where we share a common passion for education.
Take a moment today to catch up on reflections from the first ever National Writing Project Midwest Conference as hosted by the GMWP:
NWP Midwest Conference — Connect. Collaborate. Learn. by Mark Dziedzic
“ Connect. Collaborate. Learn. Yes, that was the conference tagline, but more importantly, that tagline established the guiding principles from inception to completion of the conference.”
Rise Up and Tell a Stranger about Your Teenage Daughter’s Dystopian Novel by Bob Broad, a professor and researched at Illinois State.
“I also smiled remembering the firm injunction in Writing Project practice to insist that people (especially teachers of writing) claim their identities as writers. So I answered in the spirit of the Writing Project.
“Yes, I am a writer!”

Releasing those Butterflies: Reflections on the first NWP Midwest Conference by Emily Miller
“ And so, through the conference, I drank from this fire hose of good ideas, and not only began a journey of discovery, but also reinforced my values as a teacher, and especially a teacher of writing.”
Next Week: We will take a look at the new professional development offering, the Teacher Writing and Inquiry Institute. TIWI colleagues will be posting blogs throughout the year.
