Announcing DappCon Berlin 2018
A conference for developers by developers
Berlin has emerged as one of the most vibrant blockchain ecosystems globally. Many well-known developers and projects both mature and new have chosen it as their home: The first Ethereum office was created here — just a few months after the Ethereum token sale. Berlin is the city where Solidity was written; and where critical Bitcoin infrastructure was partly developed as well. No wonder that Devcon0 had to kick off here in Kreuzberg!
The city’s creative and alternative character clearly resonates with those pursuing the transformative power of blockchain technology. “It’s quite natural that Ethereum didn’t crystalize in the Valley as its main purpose is about changing the way the economy works — not just optimize it”, pointed out Gnosis CEO Martin Köppelmann in a recent interview. With its strong history of a hacker culture, Berlin could attract many independent thinkers working on interesting projects, and building cutting-edge technologies. The unique combination of talented developers and a revolutionary, slightly anarchistic spirit that wants to change the world makes this city stand out as Europe’s crypto capital today.
What we found to be still somewhat missing here, however, are conferences with a strong focus on the core technology itself — organized by developers for developers. So we decided to host our own.
To those of you who want to take part in building Ethereum’s core infrastructure and applications, and even those who are just curious or even skeptical about the next generation of dApps: we invite you to DappCon Berlin 2018 — a nonprofit, global two-day developer conference where the Ethereum community can gather to learn, build, and think big around the topic of decentralized applications, tooling, and scaling solutions on Ethereum.
DappCon Berlin is taking place on July 19th-20th 2018 at Postbahnhof — a former train station providing space for 800 people with two stages, one workshop room, and a large outside garden area to enjoy the Berlin summer while networking. It’s easily accessible from anywhere in town, located right next to Ostbahnhof.
Highlighting our event will be an impressive and still growing roster of speakers: CTO of Kyber Network Yaron Velner, Founder of Golem Julian Zawistowski, as well as Jarrad Hope, Co-founder of Status will be sharing their ideas. We’re excited to have the Ethereum Co-founder and ConsenSys CEO Joe Lubin and Executive Director of the Web3 Foundation, Peter Czaban, on board, too! We also expect a few special guests to be added to this already impressive list.
While we all strive for decentralization, we at Gnosis believe that it’s really important to get people together every now and then, provide them with a place to talk face-to-face, ask critical questions, bounce ideas off each other, and form new ones together. That’s what motivated us to organize a conference for developers, putting a strong focus on Ethereum’s core technology, and facilitating in-depth discussions that will drive this burgeoning community forward.
In a series of panel discussions, presentations, and workshops, DappCon attendees will get a chance to hear about and discuss different governance mechanisms, usability and security of self-sovereign authentication models, as well as next steps in the development of decentralized exchanges. You’ll also be shown some cool new developer tools for dApp development and scaling solutions on Ethereum, and meet some of the most talented developers working with decentralized applications today.
Before celebrating all the new ideas and lessons learned at the afterparty (truly living up to Berlin’s party standards!), attendees will also get the chance to monetize their expert knowledge on exciting prediction markets powered by Gnosis!
