Introducing Gnosis Safe Apps
Let’s build the browser for the internet of value — together
When the Gnosis Multisig was first launched, the idea of a flourishing Ethereum application ecosystem had not been yet realized. Today, that idea is a reality as we have seen thousands of applications deployed to Ethereum. As applications have started to become more accessible, usage of the Ethereum network has shifted from simply sending ETH and tokens to using these applications. While the Gnosis Multisig has established itself as the most trusted platform to store digital assets, we recognize this important shift in application usage and have been working hard to create a way for Safe Multisig users to interact with these applications. The launch of the Gnosis Safe Multisig last year was an essential first step in this process, and today we are excited to announce the launch of Safe Apps.
Interacting with Safe Apps
Safe Apps allow users to interact with Ethereum applications straight from the Safe Multisig interface. Users are able to customize their own interface by selecting from a list of apps. If an app is not listed in the UI by default, it’s possible to add a custom app by simply putting in the link to that app. Once apps are added, interacting with them will feel like executing any other multisig transaction. If your Safe has multiple signatures required to execute a transaction, those same requirements apply to Safe Apps.
We think this makes Safe Multisig a browser into the “internet of value”, and we want to build this browser together with the entire Ethereum ecosystem.
Developing a Safe App
It’s very important that we work with application teams in order to build a long list of available apps. Therefore along with the launch of Safe Apps, we are announcing our Safe Apps SDK, style guide, and components. This allows you to quickly and easily build a Safe App for your application. Perhaps most importantly, building a Safe App is permissionless and anyone can do it.
Currently, there are over $25mn in total funds in Safe Multisig, and we are seeing users migrate from the old multisig on a daily basis. This is a great opportunity for applications to tap into a new pool of users and funds. Also, with over 20 wallets working with Safe Multisig out of the box, there is no need to deal with the headache of wallet compatibility.

Security
We take security extremely seriously at Gnosis, and it’s always foremost in our mind. Safe Apps directly interact with the smart contracts of each application in the store. At no point does Gnosis have control over the funds being used in the process. Also, apps are loaded in a sandboxed environment and have no direct access to your web, mobile, or hardware wallet.
Microgrants
We are introducing Safe Apps Grants to incentivize the community to extend the functionality of the Safe Multisig and enable small projects or independent developers to build their first Safe App.
