A classroom at the Tallinn Free Waldorf School, a school where parents sit on the board of governors. Classrooms have pianos to encourage students to play music during break times, as part of their holistic development.
Ms Kristina Sanin, head of Tallinn Free Waldorf School, feels the current state system overly pressurises children. “They think they are not smart enough and can’t learn enough,” she said.
Pupils at the Waldorf School engage in compulsory art lessons and spend more time on such non-academic activities. Student works are visible throughout the school, which include a handmade clock also used to teach fractions (left), perspective drawing (middle) and oil-painting portraits (right).
