Remembering Kim: Support the Kim Wall Memorial Fund
Honor the life and spirit of Kim Wall by supporting the next generation of women journalists covering “the undercurrents of rebellion”
In August of 2017, acclaimed Swedish freelance journalist Kim Wall was tragically killed while reporting on the UC3 Nautilus, a privately-built submarine, in the bay of Køge, Denmark. Her case is still under investigation.
Kim was a rising star on the international reporting scene, with works published in Harpers, The Guardian, New York Times, Foreign Policy, Vice Magazine, The Atlantic, among other publications. Aside from her top-notch journalism, Kim was beloved by her peers and friends and known as a warm, generous, talented, and relentlessly curious colleague and friend.
Despite the devastating news, Kim’s family and friends immediately established The Kim Wall Memorial Fund to honor Kim’s legacy. Through crowd-funding efforts and moving video tributes, Kim’s family and friends raised over $100,000 in support in just the first month. The outpouring of support has brought them closer to their goal of $200,000 which will ensure The Kim Wall Memorial Fund will launch as early as 2018.
“The Kim Wall Memorial Fund was established by her family and friends to honor Kim’s spirit and legacy. The grant will fund a young female reporter to cover subculture, broadly defined, and what Kim liked to call ‘the undercurrents of rebellion.’
Kim would have wanted more women to be out in the world, brushing up against life. We are asking for your help in realizing her vision of this braver, lovelier world. “
Honor the life and spirit of Kim Wall by supporting the next generation of women journalist covering “the undercurrents of rebellion” through The Kim Wall Memorial Fund.
