Aloyo, the star of Children Do Not Play War, on set in rural Uganda, Summer 2018.

Last summer, Fovrth Studios partnered with Vild Studios, Facebook, Oculus, and Go Campaign to create Children Do Not Play War, an immersive film documenting the challenges of life after being a child soldier. The film is a vision of Brazilian film director Fabiano Mixo known best for his artistic approach to virtual reality cinema. His careful consideration of the subject matter and the technology will bring viewers in touch with a young people living in Uganda who have faced incredible hardship at very young ages. Go Campaign works with local non-profits, like our host organization Children of Peace-Uganda, fostering an open environment to address the ongoing healing process.

Shot over the course of three weeks in rural Uganda, the film project brings captures the story of one young girl as she moves forward in life, but reflects with her peers on their shared past. Fovrth’s Anna Therese Day captured this Visual Diary of the kids, the Children of Peace-Uganda staff, and the Children Do Not Play War team throughout their shoot in Northern Uganda.

The film premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in the Spring of 2019. For more on the film + its premiere, check out our write-up: World Premiere of Children Do Not Play War at Tribeca Film Festival 2019.
