Has Anyone Tried Just TALKING to Cancer?

Cancer continues to be a leading cause of death among humans all around the world, killing over 8 million people last year. For centuries, mankind has tried countless ways to combat the disease, from medieval homeopathic “cures” to modern-day chemo and radiation therapy. But so far none of the solutions have worked well enough, begging the question: has anyone tried just talking to it?

Like seriously, what if we just sat down with cancer and said “hey buddy, how about cooling out?”

It certainly couldn’t hurt, right?

Look, I get it. There’s a lot of anger there. We all have a friend or loved one who’s suffered or died from cancer, if we’ve been lucky enough to avoid it ourselves. But I’m not saying we have to be friends with cancer or even like it. All I’m saying is, after centuries of failed efforts, maybe it’s time we change our approach.

Who knows, we may even find some common ground.

Ultimately, we humans need to put aside our sense of pride and not let it get in the way of saving the lives of our loved ones. Am I deeply saddened and angered by cancer’s decision to kill my aunt Trudy? Of course. But let’s not forget, our medicine has killed billions upon billions of cancer cells over the years, too. Who are we to pass judgement?

So I say it’s high time for humans and cancer to sit down and have a nice long chat. Our grandchildren may thank us for it.
