Together with circular economy accelerator BlueCity and energy conglomerate ENGIE, we have organized an innovation lab. Stimulating corporate companies to work together in reaching their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals. Among the participants were Legrand, ABB, Technische Unie, Schiphol Real Estate, ABN AMRO and others.

The challenge

How might we develop a ‘Product-as-a-Service’ based on an existing product for real estate clients with a sustainability agenda, resulting in a measurable contribution in sustainable impact and circularity?

Our approach

We ran an Opportunity Lab with two 5-day Concept Sprints in a former subtropical swimming facility in Rotterdam. Bringing together teams from multiple companies to work on the same challenge but each from their own perspectives.

“Professional and well-coordinated network of experienced and high-quality Sprint facilitators and designers.” — Bart van der Zande, BlueCity

Our solution

The difficulty in creating a circular service from highly technical and physical products is typically in financing the operation and the overall business model. To validate the Product-as-a-Service (Paas) offerings, digital brochures (landing pages) were created to discuss with potential real estate clients.

Two co-created service offerings were further developed in a 100-day period based on the initial feedback from the validation stage of the Opportunity Lab.
