The new version of synapseRT NextGen, version 8.3, delivers new features and improvements that you’ve been requesting. At Go2Group, we strive to regularly update our products to meet the customers’ needs. In our latest version, released today (8/3/16), we’ve addressed many of our customers’ requests.

Users requested additional features and capabilities in our previous version…

Listed here are some of the challenges users of synapseRT NextGen 8.2 and earlier versions were facing:

  • Some QA teams wanted to execute different sets of test cases inside a test plan through different test cycles. They wanted more flexibility when creating a test cycle, to ensure that only the desired test cases were loaded, instead of loading all test cases from a test plan into each newly created test cycle.
  • QA team members frequently perform test case import/export actions, but most of the test cases are run in a “Jira User” role in Jira server, with no access to the “Administration” page. The testers needed a “portal” to finish test case import/export actions from an accessible page, instead of from a Jira administration page.
  • Some of our customers asked that we make organizing and creating test cases, and the process of moving and copying a set of test cases to another test suite, easier to do.
  • Rich text editing is very well supported by Jira, but it was not supported by previous versions of synapseRT NextGen in test steps. It lowered the usability of the add-on when they are working with test steps everyday.
  • A user mentioned that a parent requirement does not display the test cases and defects aggregated from all its children requirements. A child requirement is broken down from its parent. As a result, its test cases and defects are reflected to its parent requirement.
  • synapseRT NextGen v8.2 only provides two gadgets, offering limited information about testing status. There is no gadget to gather “test case run assignment,” “test execution by tester,” and “defect statistics per test cycle” information.
  • The current “test plan + test cycle” approach meets most customer needs for test planning and execution, but this approach does not work well if the user wants to conduct ad hoc test execution from a single test case, rather than creating a “test plan + test cycle.”

And Go2Group delivered!

All the challenges listed above are solved by synapseRT NextGen v8.3, with the following new features:

synapseRT NextGen v8.3 highlights

Add more flexibility to the “test plan + test cycle” approach for test planning and execution:

  • Add/remove test cases with reference to their test plan members in any “DRAFT” test cycle
  • “Clone a Test Cycle” will only bring the selected state test runs (e.g., failed and blocked test runs)
  • Support for reordering of test runs at test cycle level.

The figure below shows the test case management flexibility in the new version of synapseRT NextGen

We’ve added a new feature to do test case import/export from the Test Suite panel:

  • Import test cases to any test suite (with test suite information)
  • Export test cases from any test suite (with test suite information)

This figure shows how easily test case import and export can be performed:

We’ve added a new feature to move/copy test suites/test cases across the test suite:

  • This feature helps users to move/copy either test cases only, or test cases with test case hierarchy, to other test suites in the project

We’ve added the ability to make test case steps that support rich text editing:

  • Rich text editing enables the user to do advanced editing of texts for test steps using wiki markups

This figure shows some of the rich text editing features available in the new version of synapseRT NextGen:

Parent requirements that display the test cases and defects can now be aggregated from all their children requirements:

  • In a requirement issue, test case coverage will be combined with its direct associated test cases, and the test cases associated to its children
  • In the “Traceablity” panel, parent requirements will display test cases and defects aggregated from their children
